WebP is an open-source raster image format developed by Google in 2010 based on VP8 predictive video coding. JPG is the 1992 legacy photographic compression standard. WebP was engineered specifically to accelerate the World Wide Web by replacing JPG, PNG, and GIF with a single high-efficiency web format.
