HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is based on the HEVC/H.265 video codec standard adopted by Apple in iOS 11 as the default camera capture format. JPG (JPEG), standardized in 1992 by the Joint Photographic Experts Group, remains the global standard for digital photography, web graphics, and universal device interoperability.
