How to Open a .KEY File

A .KEY file is a KEY File Format. Opening a .KEY file requires software capable of decoding the KEY File Format format. If your operating system lacks a registered viewer or native codec, the file cannot be previewed without additional tools.

Windows 11 & 10 Instructions

  1. Open in Microsoft Office or LibreOffice: Launch Microsoft 365 or free open-source LibreOffice, click 'File' → 'Open' and select your .KEY document.
  2. Browser PDF / Document Reader: For PDF or eBook files, drag directly into Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge to read without third-party software.

macOS Instructions

  1. Instant Quick Look (Spacebar): Select the .KEY file in Finder and tap the Spacebar on your keyboard for an instant floating preview.
  2. Open with Apple Native App: Double-click the file to launch in Apple Preview / Quick Look.
  3. Set Permanent macOS Association: Select the file in Finder → press Cmd + I (Get Info) → expand 'Open with:' → choose your preferred app → click 'Change All...'.
